Tailcone Rebuild 51-170a

Post by williwaws »

Having a tough time finding a replacement tail cone for an A model. It seems most of the bulkheads are cracked. If going to re-build the tailcone, are there any bulkheads out there available? I have a new/used updated bracket (Bird Dog) coming.. but everything else is in pretty poor shape as the corrosion from the old metal bracket ate completely through the tailcone.

A common perception is that little changed in the tail come from '48 til serial 26505 in '55 when the rudder cable run was changed. A study of the B model IPC comparing parts might prove the perception out and provide more donor tail cones. FYI as you are looking, all 170s prior to 20806 in '52 came with the steel bracket though many have been changed out to the later "fish mouth" style.
