Upside down yoke?

I saw some photos of 170's with the yokes upside down. Can you just pull the bolt below and rotate the yoke 180 and replace bolt. Being 6'4" the lower part of the yoke hits my legs and even worst when bundled up for winter flying.

I've never done it on a 170, but I have done it on a 120 that has the same basic setup. I think it should work fine.

A retired United pilot friend Spanky Allen, now deceased, actually did this on the job. Getting fed up with the terrible landings his new kid copilot was doing he reportedly told him he could land the plane better than him upside down. Memory fades but I think he stood on the seat backwards and landed looking through his legs. True story.

I'm sure you can reverse the yokes and I've actually seen it done. I don't know about the legality of it. It looks rather weird also but hey if it helps you then it makes sense.

Just remove the aft bolt at the universal joint (Item 12 in your parts diagram) rotate 180 degrees, reinstall bolt.

Did the same thing in my C-140 to give me more leg room. Worked great, didn't worry about "legality" and it didn't look weird.

My 180 has the yoke turned up and it is much more comfortable in this position to me. When I had my 170, it was also turned up.
