I am in Dallas for the next 2 weeks. I have some time next weekend and would like to go bum around at a GA airport. Anybody have any sugjestions on where to go and what to see. I have already done the AA CR smith muse.

If you feel like going to a museum, check out the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison. I went there a couple times when I was travelling to Dallas. Nice place and the first time I got to see an He-111.

I agree with Doug,
Cavanaugh Flight Museum is very good and has a lot of flight art that is quite interesting. There is a small restaurant at Addison field and a few miles down the road is Grand Prairie airport where I rented a 172 with an instructor and got to fly around the area.
It's fun to go to the Stock yards in Fort Worth. There is an art museum, science museum, and auditorium all in one area in Fort Worth that are great also. If you don't have smoke house barbeque in Fort Worth and go to the Trail Dust Steakhouse in Dallas you have missed the whole experience.

WhatchadoinginDallas? Ft. Worth Meacham also has a WarBird Museum on the south side. Give me a call at SimuFlite (DFW) and we can get together perhaps. 972-456-8000

This Sat night (Oct 13) is the big band hangar dance at the Vintage Flying Museum at Meacham Field in Ft Worth. The band is set up under the nose of our B-17. It is always a wonderful time. Hope you can make it.

The Texas Chapter of the Antique Airplane Association has a large number of members in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Dan Linn has a nice 1955 C-170 B and Jim Austin has a nice Stinson 108 with a 220 Franklin.
These guys are based at North West Regional. This is not a large commerical airport. It is home to a large number of antique, classic and home built airplanes as well as more modern airplanes. It is located North of Tx 114 and east of I-35 just North of Forth Worth. I have found it to be a good place to visit when I was working in Dallas. Especially if you are stuck in Dallas / Fort Worth over a week-end.
Also, the October meeting (fly-in if weather permits) for the Texas AAA is October 20th at Phil and Georgina Edington's strip near Sanger, Tx (Dallas / FTW area).

Hey, GAHorn, I go by the Simuflite building everyday (that's the one at Glade with all the construction, right?). Been working at AEA for the last 6 months doing contracting, but get home to KC and my 170 every weekend. Didn't realize you were so close by........maybe lunch some day?

Well I found something to do. A friend of mine who lives here graciously let me use his 172 for the day. I found some of the best GA airports I have ever been to. I flew out of Denton and flew up to the Okalahoma border to a little grass strip that I found on Miles’s fly 2 lunch web site and had lunch at a great restaurant called McGehees Catfish restaurant. The pictures don’t do it justice the strip is 2450’ but it’s got a good little up hill slope. The food was good, the service was great, and I highly recommend if you are ever out this way stop by. The identifier is T40 and its on the DFW sectional.

Bill-
The State Fair of Texas is going on right now at Fair Park in East Dallas. If you have never been to a really big state fair it's worth a visit. Just after sunset on the Midway (all the rides and games of chance) is a really special time when all the lights come on right before dark. It has one of the largest new auto displays outside of Detroit, buildings full of livestock, livestock shows and rodeos daily, several museums, all kinds of food (make sure and eat a Fletcher's corny dog), and too many other displays to mention. Mid-week is usually the best time to go and it would take several days to see everything, but an afternoon and evening is enough to get a good look at it. It's the best state fair in our state!
