I broke the oil temp gage/probe

Post by buzzlatka »

Help,
I was dumb and during the oil change today I sheared the oil temp probe from the wire. I did some initial checking by phone and sounds like this is a bigger deal than I thought it was. I guess it is gas filled and the gage/wire/probe are all one unit. Any ideas?
I guess I will start searching the forum and the internet for solutions.

My initial ideas are,
1. Find someone to repair the unit. I am kind of pressed for time and was looking to get the plane flying by the 10th.

2. Buy a new unit.

3. See if someone has a used one?

4. Maybe try the oil filter mod. Does that change the sensor?

Time to do research

Done with a little research.

Wag aero has the scott pn-2100 gage on sale for 150. It says it is a PMA'd instrument. Sounds like the fix.

Be absolutely CERTAIN to utilize the new adaptor that comes with the new gauge. Old adaptors do not have the correct chamfer within the adaptor and will leak. Do NOT overtighten the nut which holds the probe. After it's snug, no tighter than 1/8th turn. (one flat on the wrench).

You guys are great. Thanks for the link to the 130/140 post, that is gold.
In that post they refer to the gage as part number 13340-00.
The one I ordered is part#2100. I couldn't find the latter.
Hope I got the right one.

Should be here tomorrow via overnight.

BIG SNAG!

Got the part in today. I ordered the adaptor as insurance (assumed it was included) but it was on backorder. I was wrong, the adaptor it not included.

Anyone know where I can get the new adaptor quick.

If ever there was a time I"d be comfortable with a non PMA'd part... this is it. (Rochester made the gauges for Scott until Scott discovered China.)
