After this one departed in the am today, only three float planes remain on the lake in Eagle River.
What's the new rules this year? Cold weather only shows up when all floats are off and in storage?
I see Fairbanks is at least chilly today. But we need more than a chill, we need winter to arrive.
Do you have our winter?

Was talking to someone in North Carolina the other day, they had just received three inches of snow. I think it was 50 degrees here at the time
That's OK though, enjoy it while it lasts...

Re: Do you have our winter?
My reason(s) for wishing winter's arrival is selfish - the traveling construction season ends with a solid freeze up and snow.
Upon returning from our Shemya trip three weeks from now, I hope to install the new Burl's tailski.
The tailski may help taxi'ing and initial roll in the deeper snow on lakes. We have original power in our 170B, and any help can't hurt.

PS Shemya doesn't freeze up tho.

You should take a picture, again after it snows, in the same spot and post it again what a beautiful setting.Too bad that wasn't a 170 taking off, would have been a calender pic.

Dwayne-
Well I hope it waits a few more days before it freezes up in Anchorage. I'm going back up there for a week on Wednesday and it would be good if the kiddies could trick-or-treat without snow this year. Since we usually have snow on the ground by Halloween, it still has time to happen though.
That mountain in the far background seen thru the notch in the closer mountains is right above my house in Peters Creek. The lake in the picture is Fire Lake and is just a little short for a loaded 170 float plane, well, unless you have the 180hp.

Re: Do you have our winter?
It's supposed to be an El Nino year, so we have the warmer Pacific currents in our backyard this year instead of Japan. I'm not sure how that affects the onset of winter, but I think it will bring more "pineapple express"-like storms to the NW US than normal.
I have no use for moderate temps and drizzle. I want clear and dry fall days with cool temps, or complete powder-dumping super-cold snowstorms!!
Nice pic.

Richard,
I think of Dave Cushman (one of your neighbors) every time I pass over your strip going North(ish)bound.
I run into him occasionally while tool shopping, and he has a look of total disbelief while he describes your crosswind landings. With an eight year old’s expression of awe and admiration, he usually exclaims “high winds, and in any and all types of planes.â€
I don’t tell him he's told me before, as it is very good entertainment from a grownup.
Gotta admit our girls are excited about wearing costumes without the cold gear covering 'em up.
