Rudder Cables and Pulleys

The blessed event is near...on June 6th I will close on my first C-170B Before I can go down to Alabama, get my tailwheel signoff, and fly back here to Virginia, the ship needs some work

During the pre-purchase inspection, a frayed rudder cable was found. Seller came down in price to allow for repairs. Once both rudder cables were pulled out, both were found to be in bad shape. Additionally, all six rudder cable pulleys were badly grooved and/or had flat spots...so they all need to be replaced
The A&P that is doing the work is not a 170 specialist and is having a hard time tracking down part numbers and sources for the cables and pulleys. He is talking with Cessna, but I think this may take a while and the price may be way out of line. Does anyone know the correct current part numbers for the rudder cables and the six rudder cable pulleys for a 1954 170B Can anyone suggest a good source for these parts The mechanic says that Cessna wants almost $100 per cable. He is guessing maybe $15 per pulley. I do not have the "required publications" yet, so I cannot look up the numbers for myself, and even if I had them, I am told that the original numbers in many cases have been discontinued or superceded over the years.

Any help you folks can provide a fledgling C-170 owner would be greatly appreciated

Try McFarlane Aviation I think that his ad is in the Tade-A-Plane. I have purchased cables at reasonable prices and he has been good help also.
Probably able to purchase the pulleys also. Best to you.

Welcome to 170 ownership.
One thing you'll have to learn early is your serial number. A year-model doesn't mean much when it comes to specifics like parts. (The year model could mean the design-model, or the year it was registered with the FAA, two seperate events. My "53" model was off the assy line in '52, so the FAA thinks it's a '52. But in reality it's a later model with later landing gear legs, etc. SN-25713.)
OK. Here's the pn's for pre-sn-26505, which changed a tailwheel steering system.
0510105-1 rudder cable (same on the left and right, so you need 2 of 'em.)
A-114 pulley, outboard. need 2 of these.
BB-208 pulley, sta. 140.0 and sta. 172.0 so you need 2 of these, also.
NAS383-3 rudder pulley (rear) need 2 of these.
