170A Flaps Like the 170B?

170A Flaps Like the 170B?
Does the 170A have the 40 degree fowler flaps like the 170B?

No the 170A is a straight wing with no dihedral and no fowler flaps like the B model. Doug

The 170 & 170A has "split" flaps.....not"semi-fowler" flaps, such as the B-52 model.

The small less effective A model flaps also drop to 50 degrees at full extension.

The 170 & 170A do not have split flaps. They have small plain flaps. The A model has 50 degrees of deflection and are not as effective as the later (much larger) fowler flaps on the B model aircraft.
Saying that ...I own an A model. I've wished I had more engine several times, I've never needed more flap.

In the link above provided by Aryana, it looks to me that the split flap is the closest to what the c-170 and the C-170A have. they certainly are not like the "Plain Flap" picture shows. I do have to admit that none of the above pictures seem to be exactly the same as the flaps through the A model and as on the 190/195.

A Split flap is one where the top surface of the wing does not deflect it is fixed to the rest of the wing while a the trailing edge splits and a flap comes down from underneath. Here.

The 170A does not have the same flap design as the 190/195 series aircraft. The 170A has a PLAIN flap. Here's what a 170A flap looks like for those that need a refresher. The aircraft in the photo is our 170A.

Thanks for enlightening me. I would have sworn that the A model used a split flap. Did the straight C-170 have the same flap? I seem to remember that there was a straight C-170 parked on the Ramp at Rancho Murieta and the flaps used to blow down when the Helicopters hover taxied behind the parking line.

Tha straight 170 has similar plain flaps (like the 140). The early plain flaps are held up by a single spring which is the only thing that keeps them up while the aircraft is on the ground. The spring is very light and gusty winds can blow the flaps around quite a bit if they are not properly secured.

I knew better, but misspoke and left, and forgot I even visited this thread.
(In fact, clearly I didn't even proof read that post before leaving,...I did not mean
B-52...... I meant B- model, beginning in 52.

I wasn't trying to say that the 170A and 195 have the same flap design.
