Red vs Green
The jury may still be out on Red-vs-Green but
If you really want to feel like a hotrod, go fly with a bunch of YELLOW airplanes!!
Had a wonderful time at Lockhaven PA over the weekend.

NIce! (The annual cub migration at Reklaw always has a nice line-up of Cubs. Mr. Taylor and Mr Piper sure did a lot for us all.
PS:
Yellow (slower still) is a primary color of GREEN!

But red is at the low frequency (SLOW) end of the spectrum...gahorn wrote:NIce! (The annual cub migration at Reklaw always has a nice line-up of Cubs. Mr. Taylor and Mr Piper sure did a lot for us all.

Re: Red vs Green

That works both ways! The faster you get left behind, the redder you look, possibly even more so due to the embarrassment.Aryana wrote:Miles, red is low frequency, but long wavelength! The higher the velocity is of an object moving away from you, the greater the visual doppler redshift.
In short, the faster a plane leaves you in the dust, the redder it gets for you!![]()

Re: Red vs Green
C-170's don't have rear-view windows, Miles. The ONLY way to view an airplane significantly differing in speed than yourself along the same course...is thru the front window. Therefore, an airplane in front of you will appear RED if it's leaving you behind...and GREEN if you're gaining on it.

Re: Red vs Green
It's particularly relevant that the red/green thing recently renewed itself, as only this last week, after a long "MIA", I had dinner with Joe Harris' daughter, Megan. She's happy and doing well.

Re: Red vs Green
Here is a real green airplane.
I can't make out the accent, its probably Texas, maybe North Dakota. This is definitely real Eskimo engineering for those hard to prop airplanes.

Texas, You say....Sir you have listened to too much howling Alaska wind while viewing those "Northern Lights" if that is Texas. Or could it be you have had a little too much "Northern Exposure".... ;~)
