Good to see you're making the best of the lousy weather. Can one of the boys get a ride in that thing when you're done.

Your model 170 almost has the wing span of my Dad's old Cassutt racer!
It might even weight as much too.

When my Dad was flying his 1/4 scale Extra, he had a little trailer to carry the whole thing to the field.

Very jealous of your build, but I have way too much going on to do any modelling now.
Strap it on your car! Drive slow.
Heres my cartoon sloper on My Renault 4 in France.

And my all time favourite model plane, a Multiplex Alpina 4m.

What's wrong with the tire swing in the background? It's got the leans.

I'm guessing a kid just flew off it under the back of the car, they lived on it.

Take the rudder and elevators off of your 170, and that's about what it looks like.

Yeah, missed that.

Arash,
You are a true craftsman. That model is going to be awesome! I was thinking of you the other day, we were flying over KHAF on the way to KSFO. What a great place to fly

Best of luck on your new project.

Of course the leading edge of the flap is rounded and fits in the rounded trailing edge of the wing. Pretty cool flaps though.

Aryana wrote:Bruce, should I leave a gap on the lower side just like the real thing or just make them mate up flush? No one will ever see it since it's on the bottom of the wing, but the little details are what makes this fun.
I'm already working on making the overhead vents, throttle, and mixture controls from 6061 on a lathe. Also already worked out how to make control yokes that move with the flight controls.

I know...I'm a dork.
I mentioned it really because it is a part of the function of the flap. As the flap moves down and back the gap is open and air goes over the flap. That is why the flap is an airfoil shape. If the flap has a rectangle shape the air won't pass over it as cleanly. You probably won't know the difference in the model when flying it.
With the detail that you had talked about doing and that which you just mentioned, rounding the flap leading edge and the wing trailing edge to match seems trivial.
Moving yokes would be cool. One of the best flying models I had was a Smith Mini Plane I'd bought built but retro fitted a G. I. Joe torso in the cockpit. The head moved with the rudder which I swear made a difference in flight.

If your going to corrosion proof, add PPonk, float fittings and a v brace, now is the time.

Frankly this build really p*s**s me off. I want one too, but I have way too many projects on the go, and half a dozen unbuilt or smashed slopers waiting in the basement for some attention. And the weather is getting better here so whenever I can I go flying instead.
Please keep posting photos, it is looking great and we want a nice video when it flys.
