Here is something that should be considered when selling an early C-172.

It is reported that some of the very early C-172s still had the forward gear box as used in the C-170 since they apparently came off of the same assembly line. If that happened to be the case, the airplane would be VERY desireable for conversion to a conventional landing gear configuration. I would guess it would be worth at least $5K to a converter considering parts and labor to install a gear box.

Unfortunately, attrition is eating away at the supply of Cessna airplanes with a conventional landing gear,and there is always a small demand for that configuration. The demand is not enough for a manufacturer to put them into production, so the only supply is the conversion of early models of the C-172, C-175 , and C-182. Bush planes and ski planes will probably be with us for a long time.

If this a/c is'nt as close to a '56 c-170 then none are, this is #26. Pretty early if you ask me!
