2007 Lee Bottom was a great fly-in and probably the largest private fly-in I have ever been to, 410 planes by Rich and Ginger's (owners) count. Absolutely perfect weather and cool temps no doubt helped make it twice as large as last year. $4.95/gal gas didn't seem to slow anything down either.
We flew in on the Monday before and left the plane tied down at Lee Bottom while we drove to the U.S. Air Force museum in Dayton and toured the museum for three days and didn't see it all. Then to Columbus on Friday for the Gathering of Mustangs, 85 P-51s lined up together. Several were taking turns flying almost continuously between Heritage Flights, Thunderbirds, and the F-22, F-15, and F-16 demos. Not to mention seeing some of the actual WWII P-51 pilots and crew chiefs at their old planes. It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
We parked beside the DC-3 at the Lee Bottom fly-in and saw several C-170s but I'm sorry I didn't get to talk to any of the owners and I didn't see anyone I recognized.
If anyone wants to visit a great fly-in, try Lee Bottom next year. In the meantime, we're making plans for Petit Jean.

Richard,
Cool! I missed that. I really wanted to get down there and meet you, but I was ill and couldn't go. Petit Jean is on my calendar for sure; I've been there two times, but missed last year due to weather and other things. I was fascinated by your account of your flight from Alaska. I think I may take the 170 up there next June. (Been to Anchorage in my J3, but now I have a more comfortable ride!)
