Yes, all '52 B's and previous models had the latches. (The '53 B model dispensed with the airbox cooling and introduced the pressure-cooling cowl similar to all subsequent Cessnas.)
The above-pictured aircraft has been modified (as has the wing, which has drooped leading-edges...probably a STOL kit...and a "L" heated pitot tube similar to later aircraft. The official 170 heated pitot tube is a straight, Kohler "shark fin" type, similar to 190/195 aircraft. There should be documentation in the logs and Form 337's for these mods.)

PS- I like the cowl treatment.

Flew the plane home this week. It sure feels good to know the latches will never fly open. Best investment I've made.Prior I had the type that locked the bottom closed, but that only solved one half, the top could still unlatch.
