John, when looking for that cubic foot of cold steam you might have looked in the aircraft hangar next to the prop wash. Newbies at FBO's usually get sent to get a bucket of it on their first day on the job

I had some senior petty officers that sent an extra gullible seaman all over the squadron looking for the keys to my helicopter. After that they sent him up the tailpipe of an A-4 to scrub out the soot... he came out looking like Al Jolson. I think he started catching on!

In the electronic shop they'd send you looking for a fallopian tube. Back in the day when electronics had tubes....

Here at the shop we sent them out for a tube of muffler bearing grease or a can of negative polarity.

At Scout camp, we counselors would send kids up a steep hill where all the admin bldgs were (called "appetite hill" because the mess-hall was also up there).
We'd send the swimming merit badge kids up for "twenty feet of shoreline."
We'd send the rowing merit badge kids up to headquarters for the "keys to the oarlocks."

There apparently is not much shaking in research for STEAM POWER in any mode of transportation.

There is a handful of innovations that were patented and have lived their life of 17 years protected by the PTO.
It is now free technology and no one is working a product line.


BOEING has just flown an aircraft powered by a fuel cell. Five years in research program centered in SPAIN.
The company needs some positive PR recoginition about now. I am not hearing anything exciting by way of news reports.

$3.95 per gal 100LL at D05.

Bought 218 gals 100LL on Friday for $3.95 per gallon, took it home in my fuel trailer. They had 1500 gallons left at that price and don't know yet what the new price will be. Other prices in our area are $4.45 to $5.65.

Within the last week I filled a diesel pickup and paid $4.329 per gallon. I'd rather buy the 100LL and fly my 170

If you have a diesel pick up, check out the Jet A price at your local airport. It works just fine, but don't get caught about the road tax.

Well BL I know a local aircraft mechanic who does have a diesel and he does run Jet A when he has to defuel an airplane. But he won't run it straight because he doesn't want to buy another truck.

He also won't pay for it because Jet A cost about a $1 to a $1.50 more per gallon than diesel does.

I have a '78 Ford F-250 that I have powered with a Nissan FD6T turbo charged six cylinder diesel truck engine. I have run hundreds of gallons of Jet A through it because I got it at a helluva good price. It thrives on it. Be advised that the air lines use it in all their on airport (off road) diesel equipment because of their very low contract price.
I guess it must be kind of like the Mogas thing in airplanes. Those who don't dare use it know that it will destroy their engines.
Those of us that use it and have for thousands of hours are are blissfully ignorant of the danger.
Locally diesel is running about $4.25 to $4.40 a gallon. Up until two days ago when they got a new load , Jet A was going at $3.95 per Gallon.
