I'm delighted to find out that the "Door Steward" is easily disengaged. It might be helpful to their sales if they so advised prospective buyers in their ads.

You're right about them not advertising easy removal. I take my doors off regularly in a couple of minutes to load my Honda Mini-Trail 70 but with the Door Stewards holding the doors wide open, I don't really need to.

Is that right Richard? I couldn't remember.....I installed the DOOR Steward that left the shop last week, at least three years ago....He had no stopping mechinisum for the doors installed...I told him he needed to do something, (1959 182)......so the door steward.....he has not had a problem with them...... and loves them.

Sorry we missed seeing one another @ Reklaw (see earlier post re: George's new goodies) He turned those lights on Friday night at his camp site & I thought a 747 was getting ready to taxi. Neat set up. If you happen to see one of those Beaver's with that door catch, see if you can get some photos and post them on the form. I saw a Beaver up at Cedar Mills flyin two Saturday's ago, but didn't look at his door catches. That one might not have had them.

Here's another alternative at $40 per side.

I installed the Door Steward on my 170A and have been extremely happy with them. They can pop off the post by easily removing the retaining pin. The kit even comes with a third post you can rivet to the airplane to stow the removed end, if you're going to be removing the door frequently or flying with the door removed, etc. I haven't had reason to remove my door, so I opted not install the additional post. If a gust of wind blows that door shut, I have bigger concerns as it would take a significant amount of wind to slam it shut.

I leave the retaining pins out all the time, don't need them. The stewards will not pop off unless you pull on them.

Folks who have the Door Steward always have expressed great satisfaction with them, but being a "curmudgeon" I cannot help but caution that the geometry of those units will place terrific stress upon the door hinges if a gust of wind grabs it. So I'd recommend that everyone, regardless of type door stops, not leave doors open/unattended. Prop blasts from other aircraft have provided me with more calls from members who want door-hinge parts than I care to receive. (Hint: door hinges are getting very scarce.)

I finally got some pictures of the Beaver door catch. I'm sure a clamp-on style catch could be easily fabricated for Cessna struts.
