Richard, please cooridinate ya'lls next Mena trip with Traci and I. We have a new favorite $100 hamburger/ shrimp basket, there. We also buy used cars in Mena and need to get one in the next week or two.
George described driving his plane around Mena - what's the best way to get to Del's?
Is he on the Northeast end? Taxi off on the Eastside?
Maybe I need to go get the 1st Qtr 170 News, for directions.

Re: Cessna 170 "Business-Liner"
I was curious about the "dead bolt" becaused when I got JD's stc'd door items, his stc actually called for moving a pin in the door mechanism so the plunger would only go just into the rollers and thus the doors could be opened from the exterior if not locked. The brackett that holds the roller has a solid aft end so the plunger can't go any futher aft. I elected to install a set of bracketts that came out of a later model Cessna that has a square hole in the back and thus allows the plunger to extend into the doorpost area which makes the latch a true "dead bolt". The only drawback is that if the door handles inside are turned fully forward they cannot be opened from the exterior which could be a problem if emergency personnel were trying to open the doors to get you out after an accident. However, I believe all newer Cessna's have this type of locking mechanism anyway. Would mean to access the cabin from the exterior one would have to either break out the window or pull the door hinge pins. Its a much better latching system than the originals. George is right about trying to install replacement doors from another aircraft on your aircraft. I did that yrs ago to gain the openable right side door window which Cessna deleted on the '56 170/172. Although my IA did a pretty good job of installing them, the left one doesn't fit as well as the original door. However its worth it to have the RH window that can be opened.

Frank, the "rotary latch" type door locks .... all have the ability to lock the door against opening. Don't fly the airplane that way, however. That position is for locking the airplane at the airport.

We'll be going back to Mena around the middle of March to supervise masking off the trim colors on the new paint job, I'll let you know when we know for sure, probably the week of the 16th.
Del's shop is on the N.E. side of the airport. Taxi east on the mid-field taxiway off 17-35, go thru the stop sign, veer left at the "Y", next shop on the left (turn left just past the mail boxes into his drive).

Driving east out of Mena from the WalMart towards Glenwood, take Airport Lane to the right, go up the hill and his hangar is the first Almond-colored hangar on the left side of the road. No sign on the bldg.
