Eric, I'm in Boston on a business trip and don't have access to
my info (I know I said my laptop and I are inseperable, but I took
a different/smaller laptop with me on this trip....).
I'm flying back home tomorrow (Thursday) and will get you the
'54 lady leg part numbers asap. I'll have access to the '54 C-180
gear leg part numbers (from Jeff) on Friday, as we always debrief
at Jeff's hangar/office every Friday night.

Excellent-- thanks,Tim and lownslow! I see that the 180 s/n range shown for the -1 and -2 gear legs are indeed the range for 1953 & 1954.
So Bela,you're off the hook on the part numbers. I still need to figure out the rake difference for the different model gear legs. I'm gonna try to find the 180 type certificate online,and see what it shows for arm on the main wheels.
And Bela,remind me to never be at Crest on a Friday night. I know what you and Jeff look like--I'm betting that Friday night "de-briefing" ain't a pretty sight!

Well,I found the 180 TCDS on the faa website (
http://www.airweb.faa.gov). It did not include the equipment list ,which would show the arm for the main gear wheels for the different year models which would tell me how much the rake of the gear legs changed with the early and late gear legs.
Bela,I bet Jeff or somebody among your 180 bruise brother buddies has got the equipment lists for both 53-54 and the 55-&-up 180's. Maybe you could investigate that for me? Thanks.
Or does someone know where to find the TCDS equipment lists online?

Cool (I like being off the hook). The Friday night de-briefings are
harmless.... Just a bunch of guys sitting around lying about how
great their aviating skills are. If you should choose to join us one
evening however, bring a designated driver (or a sleeping bag)! 8^)

I have a 1955 170B serial no. 26812. They are the "lady legs" and they are 11/16" thick. Could some one tell me if I have 170 B gear legs or 180 legs. What would the part numbers be for the stock legs? Koop 7435

Koop,see above post by lowNslow: lady legs are (RH & LH) p/n 0541118-2 & -3.

Koop, since you have the lady legs it's almost a sure thing that you have stock 170 legs on your airplane. But if you really need expert verification, you might contact Tom Anderson of XP Modifications in Arlington WA Tel: 509-884-3355;
tom@xpmods.com. "Tailwheel Tommy" as Eric calls him is probably the leading expert on Cessna gear legs.
You might even fly to his facility and let him look at your airplane.

I was just looking at the skywagon.org site,and saw a pair of the early 180 gear legs (p/n 0741001-1 & -2) for sale. It's an old ad from last year,so they might be long gone,but it might be worth checking into. JIm Hayton,a local 180 rebuilder,had them for sale for $2k,they'd been magnafluxed,etc. 360-661-1148 or email

Curious,I wonder what happened to p/n 0541118-1 ? I would think that maybe it's the earlier gear leg,but according to my 1948 IPC those are p/n 0541103-1 & -2. Since they are supposed to be interchangable LH & RH,having 2 part numbers for the early leg(s) is kinda curious too.
Also,someone emailed me an equipment list,I assume showing the main wheel arm for early vs. late 180's? Well,it had a virus,it was screened out by my server,and I deleted it but forgot to get the return address. Can whoever it was post the info here? Thanks,

A few weeks ago Tom Anderson of XP Mods had a set of 180 gear legsfor sale. I believe the price was $1,800.

Well,I got to thinking about this. I think maybe the interchangable LH/RH non-lady-legs are different from the ragwing legs,which are part-numbered LH/RH specific. The ragwing legs are p/n 0541103-1 & -2. The lady legs are p/n 0541118-2 & -3. Can someone look in their 1949-1952 IPC to see if the gear legs for those models are indeed p/n 0541118 or 0541118-1? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks,

The early gear (serial 20267-25611) is part number 0541114. This gear is interchangable left and right. I don't now if the serial numbers include the ragwing.
