You can put your own airplane on a progressive inspection or you can annual it 4 times a year and still be current. There is nothing written about doing four annual incpections a year. You can also annual your disassembled aircraft and declare it unairworthy but you still did the annual. Thrre are ways to deal with the beaurocrats regarding this. Luckily for me I do the rrequired number every year as well as 337's. I have heard that you cannot mix the two and am a bit confused about that as well. Not sure if they are going to do it or not but we used to have to send in a seperate sheet with the owners names and addresses along with the aircraft registration and date of annual or 337. One inspector told me once he had no idea what they did with all that information.

My understanding is the "one annual for every 90 days" has to do with the fact that all IA renewals are due the same time during the year, regardless of when you are issued your certificate. This allows a new IA to be compliant by accomplishing one, two or three annuals in his first year, depending on when he was certified. He needs one for every 90 day period between his certification and the renewal date. the actual wording is a bit tighter but you get the jist.
