That was my tongue-in-cheek point. We don't have "buffalo" in N. America except in zoos.

I don't hunt for sport.

I have a friend, who is very well off. I visited his home awhile back and was admiring the Buffalo head mounted over his fire place. I said to my friend "that must have been an exciting hunt", "care to share the experience with me?" My friend explained, he flew into the hunting lodge checked in and met his guide. After a weapons check, he and his guide got into a Chevy Suburban drove into the middle of a Buffalo herd. The guide got out of the Surburban pointed to a Bull and said to my friend "that one is yours". My friend got out of the Surburban unpacked his rifle shot the designated Buaffalo, got back into the Suburban and returned to the lodge for an excellent dinner of Buffalo steak. He returned home and after a few days the mounted head arrived on his door step.

I'm having difficulty understanding your remark. I know what PETA is. They came through here with the Rainbow people in 1990. Camped out and bleep all over the place for 2 months. Local law enforcement was unable to accomplish much; a few arrest, not much more. Probably just doing their job. Anyhow, local folks got fed up and surrounded their stankin arse camp. George guess I have a zoo about a mile from my house where that buffalo herd is kept. Wonder if any of my neighbors know we live near a zoo.

I know I'm from Arkansas, and I suppose that makes me ignorant to most of ya'll . I know I could google it, but ya'll are just as good; what are buffalo?

We have 2 different outfits within 3 miles of my house that raise buffalo. One of them, I pass by once a week for my beer run. What is a buffalo? And what is a Bison?

Wait a minute. I have mistaken how mit's post was meant. I don't hunt for sport either. That has nothing to do with what I posted. BUT, for those with inquiring minds, I'm a meat hunter/grower. I take 3-5 deer each year without regard to modern man's "deer season". What in the heck is "DEER SEASON" anyway? I have fed my 6 children with this meat, along with some good beef, pork, chevon and the ikky chicken.
I can't eat horns, don't care about 'em. Although, I have some I could show ya

And how do you hunt a chevron? We see them along the road every few miles up here. I believe if you shot at a Chevron (gas station) in Eagle River, someone would return fire.

I hunt for meat and I'm not that interested in Fair Chase, if it interferes with putting meat on the table!

I used to "hunt" because it made me feel like I was getting back-to-nature and doing something holier than going to the store and bying meat in plastic-wrap that used to be cooped up in a pen with no life at all and fed like a goose being raised for pate'. I felt like I was being "real" and "natural", etc..

Then I moved to the country and watched city-slickers come out in big pickups with Busses (they called 'em "RVs") 4-wheelers, high-powered scope-rifles, and bags of corn for automatic deer-feeders, dressed themselves in camouflaged coveralls and face-paint while they ate at the local diner, then drove out to hide in elevated deer-stands where the tame deer were eating their corn, took aim and blasted 'em. They'd then retire to the "camp" and drink whiskey and blare loud "music", and next day they'd haul the carcass to the butcher for processing. They called that "hunting".

Their "hunting" skills are about the same as, and they'd get better meat, shooting cattle over a feed-trough, and they'd be doing the captive-bovines a favor by putting them out of their imprisoned-misery.

My neighboring ranchers and I wish they'd stay in town and buy their meat at the grocer and leave us and the wildlife alone, ...or they'd take some pride and learn to stalk animals in their own environment with no more equipment than a true hunter might use, like a bow or a non-scoped long-gun (preferably something he'd made himself) and see how they fare against God's real life.
