ferrying aircraft

Back to the ferrying question. A friend and I ferried a 150hp supercub on Bauman straight floats from New Richmond WI. to the float Plane pond at Fairbanks AK. About 3 years ago. 5 days to get there, 4 flying. We had a 1 day layover at High Level Alberta. The owner paid for all our expenses and bought us tickets home using his frequent flyer miles. I left with $200 in my pocket and had $160 left when I got home.
We were covered by insurance. My friend had lots of hours in a PA12 on floats. If anybody wants more details I kept a good diary.

Yes indeed, I'd love to know the details. I keep my J3 on floats at New Richmond in the summers, and at Lake Elmo (MN) on skis in the winter. I've flown it to Anchorage once, and it might be fun to do it on floats! Not sure I have the range, though -- it'll all depend on what's the greatest distance between water landing spots with fuel nearby. On the previous trip I found most of the mogas opportunities along the Alaska Highway, and used them! It was one incredible trip.

While reading the "170 News" - For Members Only - I read that Dan Urbach led a 170 Alaskan Tour in about 91. The tour included some pretty remote villages along the western coast. Ken Morrow was part of that tour. I'm sure that adventure was written about, probably in the 91, 170 News. Since there is such interest in doing that again, maybe we could get it re-submitted. Boy - that "170 News" is an exciting publication to read!
