I'd like to get up near the treeline and hunt elk like my Boy Scout/boyhood friend Jeff Burch does. He hikes into mountain meadows near Telluride where he works as a Ranger, takes them with a bow, capes and dresses them and packs them out, usually taking two or more trips to accomplish the task....or takes his son Jason along and they share the meat.
I told him I wouldn't likely be good enough with a bow....but my .30-06 might do the job.... as long as we could rent horses, because I'm too out-of-shape to do any serious hiking/back-packing above 10,000 MSL.

Convention ideas, anyone...???

I can't eat horns, don't care about 'em. Although, I have some I could show ya
In all the years I've spent pursuing deer, I've never seen one with horns. I've seen plenty with antlers, however.

Telluride! Huge runway, wonderful mountain town, some of the prettiest country in the world, and an incredible gondola. Those of us with 80" props could climb up to Leadville.

Cody, Wyoming. East gate to Yellowstone NP, access to Jackson Hole/Grand Tetons, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center (5 world class museums: Winchester Firearms Museum, Whitney Gallary of Western Art, Plain's Indians Museum, Draper Museum of Natural History, Buffalo Bill Museum), nightly rodeos, Cody Stampede July 4th week, Winchester Collectors' Association annual gun show, rafting on the Shoshone River, Dude Ranches, camping, hiking, fishing... And I think that one might even find a bottle of St. Pauli Girl or two in town! :D

Cowboy, am I correct in reading into your post that you and some of the other WY 170 folks are interested in hosting a 170 Convention in Cody. Now of course it appears we have convention sites committed for 2012, 2013, and 2014 so you do have some time to think about it. :D

Runerider,
Yes and no. I do drive (program?) the Airbus out of Phoenix for USAirways. I dearly wish that I had a type in the B-17. Larry Perkins was trying to talk me into flying "Sentimental Journey" but I'm away from too much as it is, divorce is not worth flying the -17 at this point! I'm very lucky to have a wife who puts up with my flying addiction and (gasp) is now actually talking about working on her license. We had a M20B for 16 years, but it was only when I acquired the 170 that she got interested in becoming a pilot in her own right. And, as she carries a Colt 1911 in .45ACP I REALLY want to stay on her good side (gotta love a Wyoming ranch girl!). :D
