My son is only 5...we would be under gross with full fuel. I just want better climb when heavy.

Even with extended fuel we would be 790lbs with 50gallons on board. So we should be 200 lbs or so under gross. A 145 hp would carry us but I want to be able to get off the field and climb. Also 90% of our flying will be at sea level with some being at our ranch which is 1400ft or so. Mainly the engine upgrade would be to compensate for hotter days!

Has anybody checked into this company? I believe the CEO is the original stc holder mentioned earlier but do they make a mount? Seems like they are advertising it as the conversion kit which most all the other kits include what is needed. Not sure if this is a new deal or old. Looking hard for a big engine 170. Would love an io-360 but they are even more impossible to find than a descent 180hp. Have owned a c145 170 and loved the way it flew but with the heat in SE Texas and me being 6'4 275 lbs that's not a whole lot of juice to fly my wife, son and any amount of fuel. If somebody knows of one in good shape besides the 2 or 3 on barnstormers, controller, ect I would love to have a look. If I can't find one we will be buying a peachy 145horse and making the swap. Yes I'm aware the cost and similar 180 money ect but I'm set on a 170 for many reasons.
You should ask them if they make a mount.

I'm sure you realize that even with more horsepower, the 170 will not carry you, your wife, the son, and "any amount of fuel"...due to the fact that most conversions ADD weight which is subtracted from the original 2200 lb gross weight...which remains. None of the engine conversions increases the gross weight of the aircraft.
And I will ask them if they do make a mount if it comes to that. Im headed to look at a 180hp 170b today. Just trying to get some insight from anybody that knows anything about this company or if a mount is made for the TCM-IO360 currently so I have all the information before going to see this plane. That would be my first choice on engines if i end up doing the conversion but Im not going to go to the expense to have a mount fabricated if its not available. Been doing alot of research the last couple days and this forum has been so much help in finding information. Got numbers and info on quite a few options from lycoming conversions for project planes to current 180hp planes for sale.

We've owned a 170 before but only for a short time as we flipped it pretty quick. One of my dads hobbies is to buy and flip planes. This one would not be a flip as im going to sell my trike. I would obviously lose some speed when traveling but thats not a big deal.

Why would you lose speed? (All else being equal?)

From my nose dragger that I will sell.

That is a beautiful plane you have GA. Where abouts in Austin do you keep her? I fly into Lakeway fairly regularly to visit family.

I keep her at our own ranch strip. I live out west of Austin about 30 miles, see the SAT Sectional, Flying X River ranch (FAA I.D. 8TA3) about 8 miles west of Lakeway, and about 7 miles east of Horseshoe Bay.

George, did you guys benefit from those recent rains? What is Lake Travis's status?

We got a few inches, but most of it passed-over to the S.E. Travis Creek is still trickling along... :?

Lake conroe has come up 2ft since the rain which is a huge jump for our lake. We don't have near the shed Travis does. We got around 7inches in 48hours.

Have you landed on sometimes island yet ga?

I wouldn't consider it in an airplane. I haven't had my boat out there in two years.
