In one of your pictures at the beach, it appears that you're taxiing on a very wet surface. If so, what did you do to flush off all of the salt water spray?

Blueldr,
Thanks for your concern. All the photos from the beach were taken with the plane parked in the same spot. I landed on damp sand during low tide, but didnt drive through any standing water. One of the benefits of flying to the beach is that my wife and boys get to help wash the plane at the end of the day before she goes back in the hangar.

Re: Photo Album
That 1715D is a reall classy looking airplane, but I don't know if I could handle that red interior stuff on a full time basis. I used to fly safety pilot for a friend on his C182 with those interior colors and about an hour was my comfortable limit.
I notice that the engine cooling system has been changed from original. Was that done on some kind of STC or was it a one time deal? I'm sure it would make it easier for some maintenance jobs. My airplane was similarly changed when I installed the Continental IO-360 STC.

All the credit goes to Del Lehman at Mountain Airframe, Darrel Mos of AMOS Aircraft Painting, and Rose Aircraft Interiors all in Mena, AR. They did all the work and all I did was make up the game plan for them to follow. -15D came out exactly like I had hoped, no, actually better than I had hoped. The plane was totally disassembled, repaired where necessary with new pieces, painted while apart, and reassembled.
The solid color painted trim is something I have done on other planes and it works well. I like the stark bright color. All of the metal trim in 1715D was in perfect shape with absolutely no damage and all the pieces were there and original. Not even one of the original #4 trim screws had been up-sized. In my previous ownership of -15D, I had always removed and replaced the interior trim myself so it wouldn't get screwd up (and yes, George, I have new original ivory plastic knobs for the pilot and co-pilot side panel ash tray lids and the original door post hand holds but they aren't re-upholstered yet).
The engine cooling is stock 1951 C-170A airbox style which was replaced with new Airforms baffles and air box done on a logbook entry. The top side of the airbox has been removed for that picture.
If I needed a real stump-jumper 170 I would try to install a Continental IO-360. That is the most logical hp upgrade, IMHO, but I already have a 300hp 1958 C-180 for that kind of stuff here in Alaska and I really like the "stock" O-300-D in the 170. It reminds me how to fly the airplane instead of how to push the throttle.
Some more picture if N1715D:

I really admire Richard's penchant for RED... I see he's even got Ina to wear it (occasionally).

Re: Photo Album
Thanks George - that's Palomino Cream according to the 1957 172 brochure, and the only year they used that color.
This was a great project, since it was an unrestored original Forrest and I got last year so the colors and scheme were easy to recreate (they were still on the airplane!) The N numbers on the wing are still factory paint.
