She is deserving of compliments! Nice work!
As a 170 owner who's done a bit of polishing myself, I can attest that it's those kind words that provide some of the motivation when it's just me, the plane, and the Cyclo polisher in the hangar!
Plus: the Cessna 170 is such a beautiful plane to begin with! Why not polish her?!!

Years ago I use to own a Cessna 172 Reims with my cousin. He took care about the simple maintenance. During the 4/5 years that co own her I do not think that i washed once.

Now my cousin is shocked that i spend all this time polishing and cleaning the 170. When he asked me what happened to me .My answer was I'm in love!

Beautiful...how do you polish up to the paint without damaging it?

The plane was painted , I stripped it down to the bare aluminum ,painted and polished. When I'm polishing close to the paint I need to pay attention no to press to much on the paint .

See here how I did it https://picasaweb.google.com/1022072722 ... Cessna170B

When polishing the DC-3, we always put 2" masking tape on the painted trim before polishing. Never had a problem with eroding the paint.

It is probably a good idea to mask the paint ,but I'm not so peaky ,when I'm in the mood I grab the polisher and do one section. When my face is all black i stop and go home where my wife will scream at me....

My 170b 1953 was originally natural aluminum and most probably your 1955 too. To paint her they manually sanded the natural aluminum so the paint can stick better.
When i remove the paint i had a moment of desperation when i saw what they did to the aluminum. I tried to sand with a 400 and 800 sand paper but wasn't change too much. So i bought all the Nuvite compound series from the F9 to the S . In the beginning it looks like that was impossible ,but insisting i saw the first square of polished metal . My friend were betting on how long before that i decide to paint her, but not anymore . Wherever I go i receive compliments for the plane and the work done on it. I n the end was not so hard ,to do the big and rough part i hired 3 young men that were doing landscape for me and pay them 10 $ per hour , and just with a little training some supervision, and 1,500 $ was not so bad. I did the finishing and i keep working when i feel like, in section. I think that painting the plane is a lot more expensive.

Aryana, Come to Ft. Worth I will buy all the beer I can drink. While you polish and I watch!!!!!! Yes Nuvite is the best polish, So are the towels from Tom`s Perfect Polish but real pricey. Last weekend spent polishing top of the wings twice, once with C the again with S. about 8 hrs. Sitting in my chair looking at window frames polished three times each. Started with 9 then C and S Total time on window frames 3 hrs. Total time polishing 2935D 1,200 hrs in 2 yrs and 9 mo. Polished 170`s look great everyone loves the LOOK!!!!!!!! IT`s MILLER TIME. Rusty, I'll bet you can get a bunch of takers if you furnish free beer. Now some might be picky on the brand, but I'll drink Miller, Coors, etc. Just let me know time & place
