The International Cessna^® 170 Association

One of the active backcountry pilots in our N. Sierra region has organized a fly-in at a dry lake bed east of Carson City, Nv. this coming weekend. Weather is moving through the area, but has typically spared the lakebed from precip. (That's why we have all this sagebrush!) I'll be heading that way in our 170 with 8" tires, and I think most folks could handle the lakebed with 6" tires. Of course, there will be some great backcountry aircraft there: Super Cubs, Maules, and our host's beautiful 1956 C180 on steroids.
Campout Sat. night, campfire, tall tales and lots of great folks... the fall weather looks to be great this weekend!

Bruce your lucky to be operating down there with so many VFR days. Up here in the Toronto region I usually start thinking about winter storage about now. Love to go but way to far from Toronto for me. enjoy

Spent the last weekend in YYZ and it was beautiful, much better than wet YVR coast, been raining all week.

It is that time of year, and we just had our first snowfall over the past two days.
It's left a lovely dusting of the high country, but the high desert east of the Sierra Nevada Mtns. is still pretty dry. Daytime temps will be in the low 60's, (16 degrees for my Canadian friends!) and nights just above freezing. The campfire will be welcome, and lots of firewood is being flown in, I hear.
This will no doubt be my last chance for airplane camping this year, too!

The Fly-In at a nondescript dry lake bed in Northern Nevada was well-attended! 26 planes in all, with 17 overnighting.
A nice young couple in their 170 were the first to arrive Fri. night, and braved the chilly temps camping with their faithful dog Tieton.
Super Cubs, Maules, 180's and 185's. A shiny-new Rans S-7 and nicely-built Bearhawk, among others.

It was a great fly-in! There was 4 different 170's that made it in. It was nice to meet you Bruce.

Great photos, Rob! Sure wish I coulda stayed on longer with y'all...
Glad I got to meet you and Stacey, and Tieton too. We'll rendezvous at another dirt strip down the road, I'm sure.
By the way, that looks like a gnarly landing spot you made it into... I don't think my 8" tires would be quite up to the task! (Or maybe it's the pilot?)

Yes, that spot was very rough, even for the 26'' AKBW at 8psi. Kevin showed me that spot and he's the only other plane that's been in there. I walked the "strip" after we landed and removed some huge rocks out of the way so the takeoff would be a little smoother.
