I have a C-170 with a C-145 engine in it. I was researching of which repair stations/overhaul shops still touch these engines? Thank you for any names or links that can be provided. Also I join The International Cessna 170 Association today. I will talk to you guys in the near future. Happy New Year!

Do you want to ship it across the globe.??? or do you want to stay local?
Where are you located?
Ly-Con engines in Visalia, CA has a good reputation.
So does Penn-Yan in NY.
Mattituck is the factory recommended.
Kelowna, B.C., Canada has an excellent shop.
Lots of small shops can do this engine, of course.
The probelm is to make certain you price apples to apples.
Make certain the price includes the exact same services. Serviceable limits? or New? All mandatory parts? Or re-used?
Magnetos? (What about the harnesses?) CArburetor? New oil pump? New cylinders? Which make and type?
Warranty? (Do you want to have to ship it back for warranty? If so, will you have to pay for Removal & Reinstallation (R&R) and repeated shipping?)
Do it within driving distance if you can.... If not driving distance, then it matters not how far you must ship it if you can resolve warranty claims issues.

If you have it done correctly, plan on at least $25,000.

I think Mattituck has stopped doing C145/O300 overhauls for at least five years now.
Also I have read where "Teledyne Technologies is closing its airplane engine overhaul facility at Mattituck Airbase on June 15,
a decision that will put about 20 people out of work." Not sure if it is June 2012 or 2013. To bad as they had a fantastic
reputation around here and over many years I have seen them stand behind a few engines that had problems. Quality outfit!

In the north east there is a 170 friendly shop that is a TCM authorized overhauler, he is a wealth of information and very knowledgeable on the 170, he can help with your decisions, he likes talking airplanes, he may be able to direct you to a shop that will be convenient to you. He is the one that got my 170 going after a hangar fire.

Another engine shop in Massachusetts is Unlimited Aero Engines at Fitchburg airport (KFIT). Tim Hess has been working on
aircraft engines for a number of the shops in New England and helped me with a O300B cylinder replacement and oil sump repair.
He also has been the engine shop for a couple of the Red Bull racers.
