I met someone a few years back just like this. He did photo recon. also using a p-38. met him at a Comemmorative Air Force meeting. His name was Dick Reed. He flew into the meeting in a T-6. He had tons of photos and stories to share about his experiences in WWII. When he was leaving someone asked him to do a low pass if he could. I didn't think he was going to since there were several other 172's in the pattern doing touch-n-goes. Apparently this posed no problem for this old fart. He simply made a left crosswind from the right pattern and dove straight toward the ramp. His low pass was very low and scared the crap out of us. we thought he was going to crash, then off he went. I don't think the people who claim there are no old/bold pilots have ever met this guy.
