When I went to install the nylon bushings that came in the bag of parts I got with the airplane, they did not fit in the socket, without binding.

1. Do I have the wrong nylon bushings?

2. Does the installation need to be modified to make the nylon bushings work?

2.A. What needs to be done to make them fit?

3. Should I stick with the original bushings?

4. How often should the control column tube be lubed?

You can get a new set of bushings from Wag Aero for $36. If yours or the new ones don't fit, you can shim with small washers, equally on both sides of the panel, (between the panel and the triangular bushing cage or socket), until the bushing moves freely with little contact with the sockets.

The control column shaft never requires lube if it's kept wiped clean. Some folks have sprayed their favorite goop on them, which attracts dust, wears the bushing rough, damages the chrome plating, and then the column doesn't move smoothly so they think it needs lubrication and the viscious circle goes 'round again.
A clean column would not likely be hurt with dry silicone spray, but normally just keep it wiped with a clean dry cloth. (Both Teflon and Nylon are self-lubricating.)
