The International Cessna^® 170 Association

Hi, everyone,

I'm and new member of TIC170A and have got to say this is a great association and a fun forum. I'm not a 170 owner, yet, but when I was deciding on a Type I had several criteria: 1) taildragger, 2) 4 seats, 3) decent cross country and remote airfield capabilities, 3) historical lineage, and 4) an active association with technical help and camaraderie (this last one is VERY important).

I've found all of these in the Cessna 170 and TIC170A. A great airplane with a great heritage and one of the better owners groups I've seen. I look forward to learning more about the Type and hope to buy one in a couple years when my son gets out of college. I look forward to attending fly-ins, meeting other members, and participating in the association.

Welcome to the assoc Terry, I can tell you having been a member since 1977 that ya can' t go wrong. To fully enjoy, come to one of our "family reunion" type conventions...you won't be disappointed. Our family has grow up with the assoc and have made some great life long friends.

Welcome Terry. You need to be looking up Jay Baeten in De Pere WI. He's two hours north but it could be a fruitful drive for one of his fly-in breakfasts. Jay doesn't frequent the forum at least he doesn't post.

Welcome Terry, very envious of your location, great flying state. Thanks for joining and Bruce's suggestion to get in touch with Jay is a good one. He's a past president and a very talented individual would might be able to help you in acquiring an aircraft.

Ditto the above comments, welcome aboard! If I were you, I would start looking seriously at 170s that are for sale from right now until you are ready to buy one for real. They are great airplanes and you'll be happy with "The One" you finally decide on, but they are all different and you need to find out what you want and don't want in your's. They are not that complicated but there are enough small details that you will have to decide on that the more of them you look at and the more you learn thru your own research and this Forum, the better your decision will be when the time comes. You'll find this group more than willing to help with opinions and advice. Good luck in your search.

Thanks, all. I saw Jay Baeten is the Director for Wisconsin and I was going to look him up and volunteer to help with a fly-in or whatever. Fortunately, my job regularly takes me throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota, so a detour to De Pere would be doable.

I'll probably be reading the forums and the Cessna 170 book for a while for background. I hesitate kicking tires until I'm ready to buy.

I'm hoping to be at the 2014 convention, which will be a decent drive for me.

Let me add another welcome to the list Terry. I've owned my 170 and been a member of the association for 31 years now, and echo Ed Booth's comment of making MANY lifelong friends through the association. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't still own the airplane if it weren't for all the great people I've met through it.

Willie may be in China and not able to defend himself. He's now a Texan! But, he has a second home in Minnesota and he "stays" there from time to time.

Anyway welcome and I will have to look up Kenosha Wisc.. I have not been signed off on my newly acquired Champ 7ac but when I do I will venture over that direction.
