OT Any Champ 7AC experts or owners here

Helped a friend change out a A-65-8F for a A-65-8 in his 7AC. The -8 is the correct engine per the TCDS and the 8F is not but I digress.
The major difference between the -8 and the -8F for those that don't know is the -8 has a tapered shaft and the -8F has a flanged shaft. The cranks are interchangeable.
When we went to install the prop on the prop hub adapter the back of the prop was against the cowl. So either we missed something that would space the engine forward, which I doubt since we didn't have spare parts left over from the uninstall, or the cowl is mounted to far forward. The later a distinct possibility as it is entirely Wag Aero parts and they have been known, in the Cub world any way, to just about fit.
So besides expertise in the way of the Champ, if we had a member with a Champ who could measure some distances for us from the firewall to the front of the prop hub on a -8 or how far the cowl is mounted from the firewall. This might help determine what is wrong. Also are there any washers between the motor mount and the rubber engine mount bushings? We didn't have any and did not install any and that might be the difference.
BTW we do have a maintenance/part manual for the Champ but it doesn't show this detail. And my friend is a member of the Champ Association but can't get on to their forum. You just don't know how much you appreciate the knowledge we can tap at a forum (like our forum) until you don't have access to that knowledge base.
Any help would be appreciated.

My Champ is a 7AC that has a C85-8 which does not have an accessary case. The C85-12 does have one and therefore you can put a starter and generator on.
The 85 plus a few other changes male it a 7DC and gross of 1300lbs still light sport.
There is very little clearance between my nose bowl and the back of the prop. Can not get to plane to measure until later tomorrow.

Do yo have a flange or tapered shaft. Starting to hear the taper shaft needs a 1/4" prop spacer. If yours is a taper shaft, do you have this spacer behind the prop or maybe 1/4" washer/spacers between the engine mount and the engine?

My 7AC is the "Super Champ" with a o-235 up front. Which is different yet.
I'm no expert but a 85-8 and a 85-12 are about 96 1/2% the same it's the 3 1/2 % that will drive you nuts
If you look close at the picture you will see my prop is out front by 3-4 inches. I will be at the airport tomorrow and can take some pics and measurements if you like, just let me know what you need.
And yes I got spoiled by this site(forum) it is the best . Easy to use, I was welcomed here before I joined and people are very helpful no matter what walk of life you come from. Not always true else where.

Just got home from a local theater production. Have commitment in morning but will get to plane around 1 pm and look for spacers, washers,
and take some measurements and pictures. If you want to PM me a cell number I will call when I get there and you can ask any questions that

Not going anywhere fast but you will see everything along the way.
For those with a racing spirit you can pick any car on the highway and give them a neck and neck race.
Fun flying but nowhere as all around versatile as the 170!
The Light Sport aspect can be great compensation though.

Here is one of the responses on the national aeronca association website.
"The flange shaft on a A 65 F is 1/2 inch longer than a tapered shaft ( where the prop sets ). On an AERONCA, you need a minimum of a 1/4 inch spacer on the shaft for prop, nosebowl clearance. most need the 1/2 inch spacer. I have the 1/2 inch spacer on mine. aeronca has a part # for the spacer. I will look up the # and post it on here later.
the spacer for the tapered shaft on the aeronca is 2-1017, most have thrown them away over the years, because they didnt know what they were for. Bob Carr will supply the 1/2 inch spacer for the tapered shaft, they are needed with his chief spinner for clearance."
Off to the airport now to look at my champ and will report back.
