I have a pet peeve about threads straying off topic. This one wouldn't have strayed; it would have been more of a u-turn from the original topic of electronic navigation:

I don't remember bitching too much, but I didnt like having to learn the sequence of the three character flashing morse code on the beacons. At my advanced age,I can still remember and recite "The Shooting Of Dan McGrew" and 'The Creamation Of Sam McGee", but I'm damed if I can remember that sequence.
When I flew to the Anchorage Convention in 2000, I went with a Pete Kuckenberg from Idaho, who had flown to Alaska 6 times before. As our flight of 3 flew up the middle of Lake Lebarge [sic] enroute from Whitehorse to Dawson City, Pete recited "Cremation of Sam McGee" over the radio. Never have I felt chills like that on a summer day... Upon returning home I purchased a book of Robert Service poetry and committed that poem to memory, though it has since faded. :(
