One of my favorite tv shows! They don't make em like that today. Probably wouldn't be politically correct or some other BS

Cicely is a fictitious town in Alaska. Season 2 episode 5 was based on a real town celebration " Nenana Ice Classic" (the Running of the Bulls does NOT happen in Nenana).
However the long cold winter coupled up with everyone getting cabin fever Nenana does celebrate the Ice Break Up

For those that are interested the above link will take you there.

I would imagine we have some on this site that have actually been there for this "Classic" celebration.

Several times! But it is hard to guess when it will happen

It is a huge money-maker for Nenana. The object of the actual classic contest is to bet on the month, day, hour, minute, and second when a tower anchored in position out on the frozen Nenana River will move enough during breakup to pull a cable that unplugs an electric clock. The winner gets a huge check.

Every year people make absurd guess like February 31, August 1, and 24:30, etc.
