The International Cessna^® 170 Association

I just received an Owner Advisory from Cessna dated November 11, 2013. It was forwarded to me due to an address change. So much for prompt postal service!

My aircraft had Service Kit SK210-174B installed on the pilot seat on December 1, 2011. Anyone know what Service Kit SK195-11A is? Curious if there are additional seat stop items that Cessna is providing.

Frank, did you advise both FAA and Cessna of your new address when you moved?

Cessna only issued that SEB on Nov 11, 2013. They mailed it somewhat later. (The post office found you anyway and got it to you only a couple weeks after it was returned and re-routed.)

The SK195-11A is a revised Service Kit for the installation of the secondary seat stop. It's primary reason for revision was to provide for additional installations. (By the way, it's not available... it's back-ordered... and costs $598 plus labor if Cessna doesn't install it under their program and/or reimburse.)

The SEB07-5AR5 which you recently received includes revised ICA's (Instructions for Continued Airworthiness) for airplanes which have the secondary seat stop. It provides detailed instructions on how to test and adjust the inertia-belt referencing the latching seat-pin, and requires it be checked, adjusted, and logged every 100 hours operation.

I'm glad I don't operate commercially and didn't mess with that silliness and just keep my original seat latch properly maintained.

Thanks for the reminders George. Surely you don't think I would forget to make these address changes since I only had 50+ of them to make One more thing I can check off of my list to get done.

I try to keep my seat pins and seat rails in good operating shape as well, but that seat stop Cessna paid to have installed sure is an extra measure of insurance. I have not had any issues with it to date. Wish they would pony up for one on the co-pilot seat.

I also received the letter and it is extended again to 12/14.

They've extended it for one more year in hopes George will add it to the list of mods on his aircraft.

They know that if I do it.... it MUST BE ALL RIGHT ...and others will HAVE to have it when they quit giving it away!

(Hint: If you want this goofy contraption free you'd better get it now, because if you wait to see if I do it, you'll probably miss out.)

Can't speak for their processes now, but Cessna used to update their databases nightly from the FAA (I suspect they still do). Therein may be the rub as to why the letter was mailed to Frank's old address...government bureaucracy and efficiency! FWIW, I just received my advisory last week, I haven't moved in years and live 9 miles (as the 170 flies) from where that letter was written.

Owners outside of the US would need to contact Cessna to update any subscription information.

So THAT's what's in that letter from Cessna I haven't yet opened...

I would EXPECT Cessna to glean owners' addresses from the FAA database, especially now that we're all paying to have that database maintained. If my county tax people can figure it out, Cessna should be able to also.

I guess I was thinking that if anyone subscribed to a periodical or other revision service, one might advise their provider of any change of address, and that might include the newspaper/magazine, aeronautical chart service, the mfr'r of your automobile, airplane, pharmaceutical supply, parole officer,....
