Has anyone used one of these in their 170? I need to put harnesses in my plane but in the interim I think this looks like a pretty good option.

Won't keep my nugget from hitting the panel but I'm ok with that risk.

Not sure what your trying to do. You want this for your kids in the front seat right? Whats going to stop the front seat from folding forward. Wouldn't work in the back because the seat back is to wide.

Here is what I have that I will loan you that you might decide could help you. It is a Y type retro fit "Quicky" system made and sold by Hooker Harness. You install it by looping your rear set belts through the single leg loop. The Y then reaches up and over your front seat and you place your current lap seat belts through the loops at your belly. Quick easy and requires no tools.

But there are several drawbacks. First if the seat back is not higher that the passengers shoulders, the design, while saving you from head injury, may cause spinal injury. Hooker thinks this is better than nothing. See here: http://www.hookerharness.com/aviationquickie.php. The system also renders the back seat behind the seat they are installed, useless for a passenger.

These make a great temporary system that allows you to understand the limitations of a fixed Y belt system in a 170 with out turning a wrench. You'll either decide you can live with a fixed harness or splurge right from the get go for the BAS inertia real system.

Mike you might figure a way these can be used to hold your own child's seat or this Cares harness in the plane and hold the seat back upright.

My partner Leroy has these in his collection of stuff. They aren't doing anyone any good in the box. I'll send them to you, just send them back when you install a better system.

I was thinking of using that system for the front seat....I didn't even think about the seat folding forward. When they are in the back seat I have them in car seats which hold them in pretty good. He is only in the front when it is just the two of us, so using the back seatbelt wont be a big deal.

Thanks for the offer of letting me borrow yours but I am just going to buy a set for myself. 60 bucks aint bad for a little piece of mind. We often fly other peoples airplanes that don't have harnesses so I will probably continue to use it even after I install permanent harnesses in mine.....If I can ever bring myself to cut my beautiful headliner.

Alright if it makes you feel better I'll sell you the belts. DON'T buy them. I'll send them to you and if you want to keep them send me $30. How's that.

I did take Bruce up on his offer...Thanks Bruce!

I will post a review when I get back stateside! If anything, they will make me feel a little better when I bring him along on my adventures. I must be getting responsible in my old age....next thing you know I will be making him wear a helmet when he rides his tricycle.

These Hooker Harness Quickee shoulder harnesses work great! The only thing negative about them is that the buckle falls kind of high up for little ones. I am going to make a little pad that should work perfect. Thanks Bruce!!
