2015 Membership Directory

Bruce, according to the association website, in 2013 there were 1204 members and 960 170's. 244 members had no aircraft? 12-31-14, 1158 members, 960 170's, 231 members without aircraft? Unlike in previous directories this one would leave one to assume that 231 members either do not have planes or they are not 170's. Is this what you intended to convey?

Count me as a non-owner enthusiast.

How about the folks that have more than one 170? I know of three right now.

Frank,

Many years ago when I started producing the directory I decided we where only going to list 170s owned by members. I wondered why we the 170 Association cared to list a Cherokee or a Piper that a member happened to own. I wanted to list complete accurate information and narrowing it down to just the 170s own by members made the job doable.

You must understand that many many of our members give incorrect, incomplete or no information at all when it comes to their aircraft. I spend hours, probably in the neighborhood of 12 to 15 this year, to cross reference databases from every country we have a member that has a publicly available data base, to find missing information and to correct data. And this just for 170s. I'd still be working on it, well no, I would have stopped doing directories, if I had to track down all aircraft owned by members.

So after spending hours and exhausting all my efforts to find, add and correct information, I compile it and create the directory. About 3 directories ago I decided that the manual labor spent to include the few owners that own more than two 170s was not worth the time and trouble. Fact is the owner who owns 5- 170s didn't care to tell anyone he even owned one. So the directory only lists two aircraft for each owner. So yes there are about 5- 170s I know exist at least in the FAA database, owned by members, that are not listed. They are not in the counts.

As for the counts we had 1158 members. Between those 1158 members there are 960- 170's owned that I could find and that were listed. 231 members had no 170 listed because as best I can tell they don't own a 170. Some of those same 231 members might own another type of aircraft and we know who one of them is don't we Frank. Or maybe they don't own an aircraft at all.

I am one of those 231 members that don't yet own a 170. However, I AM a future owner of a 170B. When that happens, all will know about it

Due to the nornal infirmities of old age, such as carpel tunnel, arthritis, and dimming memory, I reluctantly sold my airplae a few years ago. I did remain a member if only to try to convert stubborn members, and Gahorn, to the use of mogas.

Sorry, I don't believe that. How about a few paragraphs on the R-2800 variants used on the C-46?

DaveF.

Once the old C-46 airplanes became civilians, there's no telling what they wound up with. Thdere were apparently a lot of modifications mwde to the old original R-2800s. I remember when they were scrapping out the old DC-6B airliners and I ran into a couple of guys that were planning to put a couple of R-2800 CB 16/17 engines and props on a C-46. If it was ever completed, it sure would beat hell out of the original engines.
Those R-2800 CB16/17 engines put out about 2400 HP at 61 niches MAP and 2800 RPM with 115/145 oct. fuel.

Richard,
My dimming memory refers to things like the name of that young lady I knew up in Fairbanks,AK, that had the magnificant mamory development. I didn't think I would ever forget that one.
