The International Cessna^® 170 Association

Hi all,

I'm a brand new member of the Association from Bedford, NH (just outside of Manchester, NH). I'm not yet privileged enough to own a C-170 but I'm actively looking so hopefully it won't be too much longer.

If there are any local members who might be interested in meeting up, I'd love pick your brains about this great airplane. Currently, I'm trying to get tailwheel current and proficient, albeit in a Citabria.

I hope to one day see many of you at a convention or a fly-in.

I'm a new owner (as of July) and I'm based out of Mansfield, MA (1B9). I don't have a ton of ownership experience yet, but I would be happy to meet up near Bedford or somewhere in-between. I did my tailwheel endorsement in a cub then got several hours of dual in a privately owned 170 in New Bedford, MA (EWB).

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome. I just got back from flying a Citabria (a lot different from my day job flying an Airbus) working on my tailwheel proficiency. If I may ask, any suggestions on getting instruction in a 170? I haven't been able to find one for rent anywhere. For insurance purposes, it looks like I'll need 5 hrs. of dual in type. Thanks all,

Hi Erik. Welcome to the association and good luck with your search! Don't worry about transitioning. If you are fine in a Citabria, you will have no trouble transitioning to a 170. I'm guessing that the biggest difference you will notice is the sight picture. The view over the nose in the 170 is incredible. But you will get used to it very quickly. So don't worry about having 170 time before you buy. As far as instruction, once you get a 170, in a pinch, you can always do your insurance dual with Ed Urbanowski at Sterling, MA (3B3). He did my insurance dual with me when I bought my 170B two years ago (before I moved to upstate NY), and he's a great tailwheel instructor. Sterling is just under an hour's drive from you. But, I'm thinking that there must be other instructors closer to you in NH that can do your insurance dual. Maybe Christine knows someone closer.
