I need new flap tracks & rollers for my 56 170b.

Both flap tracks have significant wear and make 'clunking' noises as they roll through the 40 degrees, catching on wear notches in the tracks.

I'm unable to find the flap tracks or rollers in the parts catalog.

Can anyone assist me in telling me which p/n they are? Also, on which brand/where to purchase?

Is there anything else I need to know/order for my AME to replace these?

Which ones though? There's tons of options. I can't find the p/n's in the IPC

McFarlane can likely identify the necessary PNs for you but….. MC0523231-14 is what you need… Four of them.

I wouldn’t be too worried if the tracks were “worn”. but that’s just me unless of course the wear is silly. More problematic is the lateral wear of the rollers through the flap side arms which will lead to a possible failure flap jam and asymmetry.

Is silly a Canadian measure Jim? Do you know if it is a skosh more or maybe less than "a wee little bit"? We need to know.

Its hard to imagine how the tracks can become worn unless the rollers have been neglected and have frozen along with not lubricating the tracks. If there’s something thats easy to do on a 170, it would be that lubrication hence Reese you might be in for a world of hurt the deeper your task takes you of which I hope is not the case. PM me if you need to borrow the gauge.

Ah…you got me Bruce, yes the measure is a variable measure dependant on the amount of quaffing going on

Just guessing that quaffing is an integral part of the flap track replacement process.

The Maximum flap track wear dimension is .6035. If it is over this dimension anywhere in the track slot they recommend replacement. McFarland sells a gauge for $41.25 ( Part # 950) but I just turned a piece of round stock down on a lathe to these dimensions to periodically check with.

I’ve never had to replace one, couldn’t get the gauge to fit anywhere and I actually had a substantial amount of overspray to remove . Plane just crossed 4000 TT and I’m thankful. Looking at the job Im guessing there be something more than a wee quaffing .
