This will be our 2nd joint Texas/Oklahoma fly-in to a unique destination. Smokin' Joe's Rib Ranch, 3165 Jollyville Rd, Davis, OK 73030, (580) 369-2818, is just a short distance east of I35, and south of Davis, Oklahoma. They serve fantastic Barbecue, have an RV park out back, and behind that is an uncharted grass airstrip. A document depicting the airstrip is available here: https://app.box.com/s/46hkjbbro2pfosbnjaqw1sfykuzgxuc5.

Let's plan on being parked by 11:00 am so we can walk in together. We welcome our Texas and Oklahoma members, their guests, along with any from other states who wish to join us.

Let's pray for better weather than last year! Also, please check this Forum topic for a runway condition update, which will be posted Friday, 7 Feb, by 0900. Should we have any runway condition issues, we'll let you know here, along with an alternate plan.

If you have questions, please contact Karl Towle at (817) 992-5281; karljiml@gmail.com, or Jim Yates at (405) 812-8982 or jyates2@cox.net.

Smokin' Joe's runway is serviceable, and according to AcuWeather, Davis, Oklahoma is forecast to be under "partly sunny" skies, winds WNW at 15mph, a high of 69 degrees and zero(0)% chance of rain.

For those who haven't been there by air, the runway is 30/12 so the winds should be right down the runway. A right downwind/base is suggested, and be advised there is down-sloping terrain under you on base leg and the threshold for that runway is at the bottom of a "bowl." Because of this, it is very easy to roll out high leading to a go-around. Please use caution.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Karl

Sadly, for the 2nd year in a row, the weather impacted our plans. At least two Oklahoma members were planning on flying in, but Saturday morning dawned with 400 - 600 ft ceilings all around Oklahoma City, and northern Oklahoma, foiling flying intentions for many.

Regardless, we had 2 C170s show up, along with 3 car loads for a total attendance of 8. If you haven't experienced Smokin' Joe's, you really do want to try it out for yourselves. The food is fantastic, and the staff cordial and friendly. Airplanes are welcomed (just check the conditions first).
