An article in the Fall 2004 170 News recommended replacing master brake cylinders that have serrated shafts. I am looking for a pair of replacement cylinders. Does anyone know of a good source for these cylinders? Is there a suitable, new replacement cylinder available?

New Cleveland model 10-35 units (formerly Gerdes A-049) are available from Aircraft Spruce 877-477-7823 for about $200.

I guess I'm confused about approved replacements parts. Is the cleveland cylinder an approved part for use in a '48 170? When I installed cleveland wheels and brakes, I had STC paperwork. The only reference to approval I find in the Spruce catalog is "used in production aircraft".

If you had/have approval to install a Cleveland part number as part of an STC...then you can replace the part with another like it. (How else would you be enabled to maintain the system other than simple repairs?)
