Pulled the carb heat out abeam the numbers today upon arrival
at my home base, and the darned thing came out in my hand 8O
(the white knob with about a 4 inch section).

I dug through the parts book, and it says the following:

Figure 42-13
Page 75
For serial 25373 - 26038
P/N = 0411090-12

Figure 42A-13
Page 75A
For serial 26039 - 26995
P/N = 0411090-8

My serial # is between 26039 and 26995, however, the panel in
my airplane looks like figure 42, not figure 42A. Is the parts book
in error here?

Premier has a 0411090-22 (supercedes the dash eight) for $61.28.

Is the only difference in the dash numbers the overall length?

I also had a look at McFarlands web site, and near as I can tell,
S1230-17 is the control I want (says it's PMA'd for all single
engine Cessnas).

Has anybody ordered either of these before for a B model?

Bela,

In order to retain the original knobs on my panel I have twice had success cutting off the old wire at the shaft end drilling out the end and silver soldering a new wire into the end of the shaft. I got the new wire from a cable that I found at the aviation department of the local NAPA store.

Bela, I think maybe I'd check out the generic cables in the Spruce catalog. You should be able to find something suitable for a lot less than sixty-one bucks. I just took a quick look & saw a few possibles listing at as low as $14. All you need is the inner wire part, but I don't see anything except complete assemblies (inner wire & housing). You could always pull the cable out from the new assembly & slide it into your existing cable housing, and cut to length as required. The one I'm looking at (p/n 05-13672) is .050" wire and 6 feet long, and lists at $22.70 for the complete assembly. They also show some .078" wire control cables.

Hello Bela,

I just purchase a carb heat cable a couple of weeks ago from Cessna for a Cessna 182B through Galvin's of all places. I was surprised that the part was only $33.97 my cost.

I was also surprised that when it came it had a white knob. The cable was generic in that it was about three feet longer than I needed it.

Part number 0713302-5

It was nice to meet you and see your 170 Out at Tom Jensen’s a few weeks ago. I just finished manufacturing the rudder cables the center and forward floor panels for my 170A. If I can get some time I will get all of the cables and pulleys installed and then install the panels.

Regards,

Jim

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

I ended up ordering the S1230-17 control from McFarland,
but I like the idea of getting a white knob (original looking)
instead of the replacement black knob that comes with
the McFarland unit.

I have to go up to KBFI anyway to go to the instrument shop,
so I'll swing by Galvins and have a look at that 0713302-5
182 carb heat control as well.
