I searched the forums and found the thread about replacing the packing in the original brass fuel selector for ragwing models. Even the replacement part # for the original packing is no longer available, and the only guidance from Cessna is to replace the entire assembly. That is overkill. Can anyone suggest equivalent packing material that will work in the original fuel selector valve assembly? And if the valve must be replaced, does anyone have field approval experience as it will be well off the original type certificate.

I would try graphite rope packing or teflon packing. The graphite rope packing can be bought oversize, if necessary, and unraveled to get the size you need. Teflon packing is an excellent packing material, but must be bought in the size you need.

In our area we purchase these packing materials at an oilfield supply house. However, a plumber or hardware store should have them.
Remember, this is PMA, bogus and STC'd materials.
