The International Cessna^® 170 Association

According to the Transport Canada web site there is a total of 285 registered Cessna 170's in Canada (April 6, 2006).

First # = 170, second # = 170A, third # = 170B, fourth # = total

Alberta 7 / 16 / 36 = 59
British Columbia 9 / 13 / 46 = 68
Manitoba 1 / 9 / 17 = 27
Nova Scotia 0 / 0 / 4 = 4
NWT 0 / 1 / 1 = 2
Ontario 6 / 3 / 46 = 65
Quebec 0 / 2 / 28 = 30
Saskatchewan 1 / 9 / 17 = 27
Yukon 0 / 0 / 3 = 3
Totals 24 / 63 / 198 = 285

This is one tenths of the 170's in the US which corresponds fairly well with our respective populations.
Interesting to note how few of the birds are in the east of the country.
Two thirds of the rag Wings are in the west and only 5 of the 170's are in the North.

I'm suprised there are only 3 in the Yukon, (4 over the weekend since I was there sat./sun. fishing) seems like there was one or two on floats down on Shwatka (sp.) Lake and I thought I saw one or two at the Airport there in Whitehorse. Gotta love that CanPass.

You may have seen the complete Yukon-fleet at the airport since all of them are there at this time of year: CF-KOT, C-FFDG and C-GYFD, all of the with the O-360 Avcon conversion.
At this time there is no flosy equipped C.170 around. C-FFDG has a float kit and floats, but the owner wants to sell those - and I am planning to get my 170 on floats soon . . .

A friend of mine wants me to fly him to Dawson City so he can do some gambling. I'll be on floats soon, so at Dawson City, does anyone know if you can land and keep a plane tied up for a couple of days on the Yukon River?

there is a public dock at Dawson City where you can park your plane. Some people prefer to pull up the plane on the shore and anchor it there.

Watch the current and the eddies - and also the bigger boats such as the ferries and the tour boat of Holland America. Stay away from them.

Have fun and spend a lot of money there . . .!

I forgot you need insurance to fly into Canada. The last time I asked for a quote they said answer these 4 questions:

1. Do you have less than 200 hours total time?
2. Is this for a tailwheel aircraft?
3. Are you based in Alaska?
4. Are you on floats?

Unfortunately, I had to answer yes to all four so they couldn't even give me a quote. I called an AK broker yesterday and he said he'll get some numbers in a few weeks.

My other option is to fly to an AK town a few hours from the border that has daily shuttle service to Dawson City (in the summer). So I may stay on wheels a little longer next year and give that a try.
