Have you heard where "decimation" originated? When the Roman troops screwed up in battle the general lined them up and every 10th ("deci") was killed by the guys next to him. Similar thing here but since there only two pilots, maybe the flight engineer gets to whack them both.flat country pilot wrote:That looks real expensive

Though he should have been screaming like a girl when they forgot the gear. Hmm... maybe he was and they ignored the gear warning thinking it was him. More seriously, I have no idea, but it makes a good story. Saw it on a history channel show once.

I am not so sure that it was a gear handle malfunction. In the photos it appears that they blew the gear down with the nitrogen bottle not a normal gear extension.
As to the pilots there are 2 boards that would meet one is the safety board and the other a flight evaluation board. The safety board will try and figure out what happened the FEB will recommend action against the pilots.

It what happens when you keep sending folks on 12+ hour missions into combat zones day after day.
I don't know anything about this mishap other than it occured after a "very long mission at a forward location", but maybe "doing more with less" has not been such a good idea since it has resulted in "doing more with less people". My 2 cents...
