Anybody know if any of the C309s escaped the scrap heap?

If you don't know it was a modified C170 that Cessna was using to test the Arado boundry layer concept with back in the fifties. At the time power loss and complesity negated the gains, but it's an interesting concept...............hmmmmm

The book "Cessna, Wings for the World" has a short section on the C309 program. They don't mention production numbers like they do for all the other airplane models so my guess would be this was strictly a test program with no actual production of the C309. Apparently it went through C309, C309A, C309B and C309C variations. The chapter mentions that the "...project consisted of modifying two sets of C-170 wings to..." and "...the second set of wings was installed on the original fuselage for the C309C program."

They don't mention whether any of the research airplanes survive.
