New here - Looking for a 170

Hello all,

My husband and I just registered on this site hoping to gain some knowledge on the 170's. We currently own a Cessna 140 and have it up for sale. We need a four seater to be able to take our teen son along with us and we decided the 170 would be a natural step up. Not to mention that my husband loves the look of it and really wants to stay with a tailwheel.

We will be reading the forums for more knowledge on the plane but we were wondering if there is anyone here that has a 170 in or around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that we could come look at. We can't find any for sale around here and we have not even sat in one.

Well, just wanted to say hi and we look forward to becoming a 'real' part of this forum once we get our plane.

Thanks, Kim

Where is Forney in relation to Galveston? The 170 Association has scheduled a Convention in Galveston June 24th - 30th. Good place to see some 170's and get your questions answered. Take a look at the 1st Qtr 2007 Fly-Paper for detail.

Welcome Kim

You've got a lot of reading to do here at the forum.

You also happen to live in a very active state for TIC170A. And if I'm viewing your profile correctly you've already made the best move by joining the association. When yo get your directory don't be afraid to give your state rep a call, she seems to have something going on every month in Texas.

An as mentioned already TIC170A annual convention is being held in Galveston this July. More details can be seen elsewhere on the forum or the association web page.

In the meantime I'm sure someone here on the forum will speak up and offer to show off their 170.

Hi, Kim!
We've got lots of Members here in the DFW area and I'll bet you and Rex will be hearing from them when they log in and see your msg!
My own airplane is kept at home down near Austin, otherwise I'd already be offering a chance to go fly!
Perhaps one of our other Members here in the area might let you see his green one, but don't let the color scare you away. There are plenty of beautiful red ones around! I've even see a gorgeous blue one that belongs to Dan Linn and he's up here too! (Dan is easily found and is also active in other flying groups here in DFW. I'll try to get him to call on you. His regular gig is as a simulator technician in the same building that I work at SimuFlite, DFW.)

Thanks George. We have spent the last hour online and can't find any 170's in our area for sale to go look at. If you do run across someone, they can call Rex at 214-793-3208. We are going to go run up to Lancaster and look around.

Thanks also to everyone who has responded.

Thanks...Rex and Kim

Kim,

As an association member you should have a copy of the Directory, Look up members near you in Texas. Some of them, like George Horn, may even speak your language since you come from the C-140.

I tried doing that in my neighborhood but was bummed when I learned that the first member I tried to call in my city has passed away a year earlier....

A good place to start would be the Area Representative listing on page 10 of the directory. Due to publishing costs, we put out a directory only every other year, but the Area Rep should have up-to-date info. In addition to knowing if there are members who have passed away, they would know new members who've joined since the last directory.
