Does anybody know where I can get the original door restraints that came on a '54 170B. Just bought the airplane and it not only doesn't have any but no mounting holes can be found anywhere on the underside of the wing nor is there any hole in the top of the door.

Thanks,

I threw mine away and bought Door Stewards. No regrets.

I agree with Richard. Don't have the Door Steward myself but have seen them. If you don't have the hardware in the wing for the wing (the dorrs have proably been filled it) then I wouldn't go through the trouble. You will be much happier in the end with these.

N2782C-
Back to your original question, I mis-spoke (the new P.C. terminology for lied) in the first reply. I had mine removed but I have never thrown away anything that is associated with aviation. Can anyone else relate?

I have the old door stops in my 170 junk box if you want them.

If you intend to install the original door stops keep in mind that they mount directly beneath the fuel tanks. If you need to drill new mounting holes (which it sounds like you might since you said you can't find any mounting holes on the underside of the wing), you may want to consider removing the tanks before drilling new holes. Also, mind the length of the screws you use. There is "some" clearance in there, but not a lot. You wouldn't want someone with a drill/electric screwdriver driving a screw that was too long into the bottom of your tanks.

Excellent point Doug! When I removed my tanks I found a couple of dents where someone long ago had attempted to use too long a screw.

I was just going through my notes from the refurb. of '82A and remembered that there is a bracket inside the wing that serves as a reinforcement/mounting point for the door stop. I doubt this has been removed since it would require pulling the tanks to do so. Is it possible that the original holes on the outside of the wing have just been covered over with filler/bondo and repainted?

George- I hope it's ok to plug advertisers in the "The170 News".
