Ha! You guys cheer me up! Thanks to all!
Doug had actually sent me a nice email B-day greeting and I couldn't help but wonder about our illustrious calendar-guy having such timely knowlege. (a secret issue coming up?)
Hey Doug! That gives me an idea..... (expect a follow up)...
As for how I spent my Happy Day.... I spent it drinking only WATER, no cake, no partying, no food whatsoever for 36 hours starting the day before, all thru my B-day, and until this morning, when I had my first-ever colonoscopy. (Thanks, Joe.) I'd put this off for various "good" reasons for a long time and the only time I ever recall actually seeing a truly angry response from Joe Harris, was about a month ago when I was sitting in his living room and we were talking. He asked about it, and I admitted to him that I'd not yet had one done. He shot me a glance that, if looks could kill.... that one would have knocked out a neighborhood. Then it just as quickly left his face, ...and he gently reminded me that I'd promised him last December

that I'd have one done.
Well, Joe I did, and it's done now. Thanks, Buddy!
Guys and Gals.... consider it a stall warning.
Go get yours! (It's not nearly as bad as you might think. The facility and the personel and the Doc* never once made me feel embarrassed or self-conscious ....(as if that could ever be, contemplates Ol'Gar ...) and the day off from work spent napping the rest of the day was welcome.)
Now.... Wonder what's to EAT!!! ???
* When the Doctor came in prior to beginning the procedure was the first time I'd met him. He was a late-40's guy (James Weber) and his cordial manner was immediately apparent. I told him I figured he was the bravest guy in the world and he asked how I came to that conclusion.
"Well", I said, "I can't imagine anything requiring more courage than a young man risking his family's fortune and 12 years of college, medical school, internship, fellowship, and specialization....just for the lifetime privilege of looking at a bunch of ......!"
He interrupted with "....going where no man has ever gone before...." ... which I interrupted with "....and you're the ONLY guy that's ever gonna, either!"
The nurses were dying laughing.
(He asked if I'd been having any problems and I told him about what led me to request the procedure. He told me about his good friend, an experienced physician buddy of his, who is in his late 50's. Despite his medical training and knowlege and disregarding the advice he gave for years to his own patients on the subject, he'd put off having his own exam performed until...yep...too late. The man is now in the last stages.
Folks, something new I just learned today about this subject.... by age 40 10% of the population will have polyps. By age 50 over half the poplulation will, and by age 60 over 75% will. Now...Get this:
100% of all polyps, left untreated,
will become cancerous. It ain't
IF you've got them..... it's pretty darn sure that by your 50's or shortly thereafter
you will have them. And if not removed, they
always become cancer.
Go get yours removed.
