London Aviation Underwriters
My friend owns a Cessna 210 and has received, what he considers to be, an incredibly low quote. The quote contains very tough other pilot requirements and $1000 in motion minimum. Does anyone have any experience with London Aviation Underwriters?

London Aviation Underwriters
I have no experience with this particular company but I do have experience with another London company some time ago. It went broke after I paid my premium.
I had no coverage after its insolvency, no practical ability to recover any of the unearned premium, and most likely, any significant claim would have been impossible to collect.
I do not know the details of this particular company nor the insurance laws of your state which may have a pool to insure against such problems. I would ask your broker to explain to you the consequences of using a foreign company, what protections you have , if any, in the event of insolvency, and your recourse in the event that you have a claim and they refuse to pay. Do you need to sue them in London to enforce the provisions of the policy?
If it seems too good to be true....

A Google search gives some info, such as their Seattle office location and representation:
Clicking on one of their reps gives:
http://insurance.state.wy.us/search/com ... anyId=1391
It appears that they may be an agency (not actually an underwriter) representing North American Specialty Insurance Corp., who have a history dating back to 1984:
http://insurance.state.wy.us/search/com ... anyId=1391
I'd be curious what their coverage limits are that allow them to quote reduced premiums, and what their underwriter's AMBest rating was. http://www.ambest.com/ (Their own website claims they are agents for A++ rated North American Specialty Insurance Company, but another source to verify that info as well as the actual rating, if any, of North American Specialty Insurance Company would be prudent.
In any case their own website is: http://www.londonaviation.net/
An industry article discusses them and their territorial coverage as if they are in a similar category as AVEMCO.

My friend followed up with London Aviation Underwriters. He concluded London Aviation Underwriters is as reputable as any other insurance company. Long story short he voted with his wallet. Global, his previous carrier, wanted to raise his premium - stating they has paid out too much on 210s in the previous year. The quote from London Aviation Underwriters was 30% less than the lowest quote he had received from anyone. I also have a friend with a Robinson R44 insured through London Aviation Underwriters. I may follow suit when the time comes.
