Are there skis listed in TCDS? Where can I find TCDS? Is there an STC for federal 3500 straight skis? Are there drawbacks to 3500's VS. 2500's? Thanks, Mark

TCDS can be found here: http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_an ... /A-799.pdf

Or you could click on the search box close to the top of the page and enter TCDS or enter skis and search for threads on skis and related topics.

Skis are rated by flotation. That is, weight that they are designed to support. When I was in Alaska, my Stinson L-5 called for 2500 skis, but in the interior around Fairbanks it was very cold and the snow was very soft. As a result, my airplane worked much better on 3500 skis. It really depends on the snow conditions. One winter in Fairbanks, an old time bush pilot named Sam White had an L-5 like mine based next to me at Weeks Field. He had a pair of small toboggans about four feet long bolted to the bottoms of his skis because of the powderey snow out on his trap line.
