First time, can't seem to find the "thread" dealing with mogas/auto gas . Would like to read facts, opinions, recomendation, etc. and information on obtaining a STC for mogas/auto gas.

I wish for any subject is was so simple as just one thread. Unfortunately as with nearly all subjects at a forum such as this information is found all over the place and every once in a while we get it right and there is lots of good information under an appropriately named subject thread.

You should know like Fords and Chevys there are those that like and will us MOGAS and those that hate it and would never think o putting it in their airplane. Some times there are facts or experiences behind those feelings sometime there isn't

Before I say anymore I will tell you that I am Pro MOGAS prior to ethanol being added at just about every pump there is.

MOGAS with ethanol the levels we see on the street is illegal to use in airplanes. There is no debating it that is clearly part of the STC.

So before you think anymore about the STC think whether you have a good reliable source of MOGAS that is guaranteed to be free of ethanol. Most likely the ONLY source of this MOGAS will be at an airport with MOGAS tested and bought specifically for this purpose.

Now there are people who will say that ethanol with not hurt our airplanes and the planes run perfectly fine on it. Under certain circumstances and with certain airplanes I might agree but for the most part for the average owner an average airplane usage I can not agree at this point. And it is still illegal.

So for now for me a Pro MOGAS guy I don't and won't use MOGAS unless it is guaranteed to be ethanol free, and then I'm all over it.

So the availability of ethenal free MOGAS should determine for you if the STC is worth it today.

I live in California where all of the mogas that I've been able to find tests out at 5% alcohol. Being incredably tight with dime, let alone a buck, I have found that it works just fine even in a Continental IO-360 engine.
It works out to about $3.20 vs. $4.60 per gallon. Figure out what that amounts to by overhaul time. Of course , I have to keep looking over my shoulder for the FUZZ, and my concience takes a helluva beating. However, I seem to be sleeping OK.
All of my friends who are flying Light Sport Airplanes are using mogas too. Their engines really don't like 100LL.
Frankly, when my C-170B had a stock C-145 engine it didn't like 100LL either.

Try using the search routine and be certain to use the wor(d) "and" between each search-word, and also to select the search for "all terms".

Many of the discussions found will be sorely out-of-date with regard to fuel prices, of course, but the general discussions should still be relevant.

That IS funny, although I'm sure Miles did not mean to disparage a new member's curiosity about subjects formerly discussed here or those still germane.

I was counting on BL chiming in with his view point. Now we need George to at least copy and paste his from a past thread. Of course anyone else is welcome as well.

BTW Kelley this thread is a great example of why it can be difficult to find things at a forum. I noticed the subject line you choose "Finding "threads" of information" has nothing to do with the MOGAS question you asked yet we are discussing it. In the future this disussion will be hard to find.

Perhaps as I reread your initial post again you just wanted to read what we had already written about MOGAS and didn't want to actually rehash it here. See this is another problem with a forum. People (I) don't actually read what is written but what I think was written and then we (I) comment and off the subject we go. What fun.
