Dan used to come to Iliamna, Alaska to pick up airfreighted supplies and gas up his plane. He was a very nice guy and a good pilot. I had the pleasure to visit with him on several occasions and look at his original, never restored 1953 C-170B. The folks around Lake Iliamna had a lot of respect for Dan, he will be missed.

Dan was a really good guy and will be missed. I had the pleasure of dealing with him both professionally and personally during many travels to Igiugig over the last 7 years. Last time I was there fishing for Reds in the Kvichak River he offered to let us stay in the village hangar/office free of charge when the WX turned bad. He even offered us some of his own fish as we didn't quite limit out. And he always offered rides or loaned vehicles free to us so we could get around. That was the kind man Dan was. Since we both had C-170's we always had common ground and would chat quite a bit about airplanes and flying. My C-170 has a very similar color scheme and everytime I landed at Igiugig they thought I was Dan or that someone had "stolen" his airplane. He was a mover and shaker for the Iliamna area and his loss will be felt by many. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family.
